T he port of Ramsgate is really spoilt for the array of fishing available. The famous Goodwin Sands has hundreds of wrecks, sandbanks, gulleys, mussel beds, and reefs for us to explore. D uring the summer months (May- October) you will be likely to catch bass, pollock, smooth-hounds, thornback rays, mackerel, tub gurnard, sea-bream, plaice, tope, pouting and dogfish. During the winter months (November- April) cod, bass, thornback rays, whiting, pouting, dabs and dogfish. F or those of you who are new to boat fishing, all tuition can be given on-board and we would advise that you use the boat’s rods, reels, and tackle as everything is set up for you, and down tiding with 10 oz lead will get you straight into the fish. F or novices, uptiding methods work well, with a standard 9ft uptide rod 6-10oz minimum 60lb shock leader, 8-10oz Gemini yellow head long wire weight, 4ft hook snood 50lb, 6/0 sakuma hooks. All baits can be supplied by our local tackle shop or from the skipper. The best baits for all our fishing are locally dug lugworm, squid, herring, mackerel, blueys, peeler crab, hermits, all can be supplied by our local tackle shop or from the skipper. W reck fishing is either drifting or at anchor. The methods above work best at anchor or, if drifting, a 12oz perk with either silver or white feathers will catch the bass or cod.
*All fish are cleaned, gutted and bagged ready for your grill*
